Her Breath Was All I Needed

I always forget about the breath.

The snaking choke hold it puts on me,

between flashing teeth I’m not paying attention to

I always forget about the breath

that distils a desire I don’t know.

I don’t believe in love

At first sight at least

That same old plea

To feel, to see, to need a reason

I always forget about the breath

On my neck and in my chest

But I know when she knows

That we’re about to fight again

It feels too right again

But what does a body know anyway?

I’ve eaten too much bad food to not rise above its lies

When someone makes those hazel sex eyes

Until I remember the breath

And I don’t need a reason
